Bboy Salute: Gemini Sampler

before we got the money for the SP 1200 (shout to my cuz Sul, who still has one AND uses it), before we could even think about the extral large sum to cop the MPC-60 (or the S950, depends on how far back you go), this is the joint that we cut our teeth on. this plus a 4-track?!? we was fulfillin our dreams and actually turnin out stuff that was good for folks to believe that a larger purchase might actually get us in the game.

i have fond memeories of figurin out tracking and bouncin usin this, and havin the extreme pride of burnin dudes who had MPs before me with just this and the Tascam 4 track.

thats that bboy shit. i'm not sure you can relate...

the funny thing is, a LOT of dudes did on the low. Don Groove had one, n he told me Just Blaze had one. i know for a fact Jazzy Jeff had one (shit, i got one FROM him! he wouldnt let that Studio 440 leave his sight for nothin), DJ Miz, Destro (did some produc on the big Usher record), Doc (from Canada, did Esthero, Res) and Master Vic (known now as Victor Duplais) all had one. it's one of those things you had to be in it to know about it. it's that bboy shit. im not surprised you had one at all. ask ur man Krist. i'll bet u 20 off the floor he had one too...

the Roland joint. it was like the first nice sequencer before the Akai. it was the sound of a lot of that 80s shit, like 'Rock Steady' by the Whispers, and all BabyFace shit.
