Illusions

That's about all this rapper can do, stir up controversy like that cover art. Pearl necklaces? SMDH.

Looking at the new XXL Freshmen mixtape tracklisting, I noticed dude only has a freestyle and a short song that's already been released to the public. But cats who have been in and around the music game for a while knew this was going to come about. Lil' B will finally be exposed as a wack rapper with no reason to have the spotlight he currently has. He won't be able to put together a relevant song or project for sale because his publishing catalog has no value. None of the music he's been releasing is considered worthy of airplay and promotion. The song he did with Jean Grae & Phonte that was produced by 9th Wonder is easily his best song (because of the supporting cast, not him), but that won't get him tour dates nor a release date. Plus he can't detach himself from his "pretty bitch" image, because that's the true reason people looked at him in the first place.

Now we can debate all day about what his intentions are with this rap shtick he's doing. If this is a college thesis to prove that the American consumer is gullible, he should receive great accolades for it. But as a music recording artist, he has to make the people BUY the music, and he has no music worthy of purchasing. So somewhere down the line he will either have to come clean or walk away.

The illusion of Lil B will turn into the reality of Lil' B very soon, and it's a major fail in the making. Stay tuned.

* Re-Post* Think About It...

_____________________________________________________________

Considering what's happening in the world recently, I felt it would be feasible to put this thought back into everyone's mind. Again, these items can be stashed in the everyday bag....

I know y'all forgot about this song. Found it all dirty in a cracked cassette case. Spike had Brooklyn looking real good, but 'Clockers' was my movie.

I'm thinking about all the drama of hood/project life while watching 'Clockers' and I'm like we are soooo displaced from nature and programmed that it's not even funny. Hood life don't mean a damn thing in a forest. Man was given dominion over the planet and it's surroundings, and most of us have no idea how to utilize or adapt to our natural landscape.

Where you going? You gonna just start walking? How you gonna read that map? Please tell me you have a map of where you are.

The cotton in the Zippo dries out. Waterproof, light on anything matches are cheap. Fire is an essential element of survival.

A Swiss army knife that cuts through certain densities of metal. Everyone should have a can opener on them.

This cleans lake or river water. Most people don't even know this item exists. This is bigger than any shoe/sneaker or piece of jewelry out.

Most people will say "I don't need that stuff" and don't realize that you use derivatives of the same tools I posted everyday. Possess your own tools, because once these same derivatives aren't around for you to use, you have a serious problem. You should now begin to see how dependent we've become when it comes to urban structured civilization. People know more about their cellphones than they know about lakes, rivers, or streams.

History has shown us that civilizations rise and fall. Hunting and hiking will never go out of style. How do you think the people went to the next piece of land and set up shop? Pick up one of those outdoor magazines or watch the Verses channel for a minute, what they're showing you is something 106 & Park can't fux with.

Think about it...

I'm With This

I actually had a whole blog about Nice & Smooth for my 'Lost Kingdoms' series...

Many of you know about my thoughts about the rap game and how I think it should be reformatted to contain a contemporary division. If you do the knowledge, there are a lot of hit songs and albums that are older than the new generation of fans. There is plenty of music to the point where we don't need to disenfranchise the older generation from the music for the sake of capitalizing off of the young like XXL does (ha!). There is plenty of "dead-stock" publishing to work off of.

So when I saw this video, the light bulb lit up. I wouldn't mind seeing videos of songs that were my favorites. After all, who said videos ONLY have to be shot to new music? 'Verbal Intercourse' by Rae, Ghost & Nas and 'Money In The Bank' by Kool G Rap, Freddie Foxxx, Ant Live & Large Professor are two examples of songs I would like to see visuals generated for.

If this movement catches on, the suits should see that this whole contemporary rap format has profit in it for the fans, artists and labels alike.

Which "dead-stock" songs would you like to see videos made for?

$ykotic Quickstrike: Change

I don't know if people are aware of this, and realistically, many may not care. Dude is not the most liked blogger on the block. But the concern is how it was handled.

Change is good if there's an improvement, and I don't see improvement in this "change". I only see the voice of the people being silenced for the sake of monetary gain. These "major rap sites" don't have bloggers on the payroll, just aggregated music and press releases of gossip and law enforcement blotters. The blog commentary has been reduced to spamming and childish banter that is absent of any musical knowledge or sharing of Hip Hop interests.

I don't know about you, but I'm not going to change to follow suit. I'ma stay a bboy, believe that.
